What's Happening
Every 7 years, Queensland’s electoral boundaries are reviewed to reflect population growth. This process is meant to be independent, fair, and free from political bias. But this year, the LNP are using it to completely re-write Pine Rivers’ boundaries for their own political purposes.
Why this Matters for our Community
For months, integrity experts have warned against the LNP’s appointment of a “politically compromised” individual to the redistribution commission.
Queensland has a dark history of the gerrymander - manipulating boundaries for political gain. The LNP’s submission suggests they’re determined to return to those days.
What the LNP are Proposing
The LNP’s proposed boundaries bear no resemblance to Pine Rivers as it stands. If adopted:
- Pine Rivers would stretch north to D’Aguilar, Woodford and Neurum - areas more connected to Caboolture.
- Strathpine, Bray Park and Lawnton would be cut out entirely, leaving no central business district or meeting place - only an industrial estate.
- Instead of using natural boundaries like roads and rivers, the proposal cuts through communities property by property.
What is at Risk
The LNP submission misses what makes Pine Rivers unique. We are an interconnected, cohesive community with strong links and relationships.
Stripping away our town centres and reshaping our electorate for political convenience risks breaking apart the heart of Pine Rivers.
Too many local organisations, clubs, and businesses that would be left behind.
