$3 million for Gympie Road Safety Improvements

MEDIA RELEASE

Designs are being drafted to boost safety at the roundabout intersection of Gympie Road, Hall Street and Dixon Street in Strathpine.

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said the $3 million project was in response to community concerns.

“Our records indicate a number of crashes have occurred at this intersection due to its configuration, difficulty for pedestrians crossing and motorists attempting to change lanes at the last minute,” Ms Boyd said.

“This project will aim to address these issues and a deliver a much safer intersection for all road users.

“The proposed safety improvements include removing the existing roundabout and converting it to a controlled intersection with traffic signals and dedicated pedestrian crossings.

“The outcome will be a much safer and simpler intersection for motorists and pedestrians to use.”

The project is funded under the Queensland Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program initiative, which aims to improve road safety and focuses on implementing high-benefit, cost-effective solutions to prevent crashes and incidents on Queensland roads.

Construction is scheduled to start later this year, weather permitting.
