Lawnton park ’n’ ride set for major boost

May 08, 2018

The Palaszczuk Government will boost parking spaces for Pine Rivers commuters, with major expansion of park ‘n’ ride facilities at Lawnton train station. The upgrade is part of a $114 million Palaszczuk Government commitment to add 2,300 spaces to nine park ‘n’ ride locations across the South East.

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said the upgrade would increase Lawnton station parking supply by up to 250 spaces, more than doubling the total available spaces to more than 400.
“Only the Palaszczuk Government is delivering real public transport solutions for the South East,” Ms Boyd.

“We’re upgrading vital local infrastructure like Lawnton Park ‘n’ Ride, and delivering Cross River Rail to free up the inner-city bottleneck and improve rail capacity across the network.
“This is in stark contrast to the state and federal LNP, who refuse to support Cross River Rail, and have no plans to improve public transport and congestion in the South East.

“Preliminary site investigations are about to get underway at Lawnton train station, with commuters likely to see workers on site during this time, and procurement for planning consultants is expected to be completed shortly.”

Member for Kurwongbah Shane King said the Palaszczuk Government is improving access to vital public transport infrastructure for Pine Rivers.

“We’ve wasted no time in getting the Lawnton parking upgrade underway, purchasing the proposed site for the park ‘n’ ride expansion earlier this year.

“Park ‘n’ ride facilities are an important element of the transport network, connecting commuters with public transport where walking, cycling and other transport options are limited.

“More park ‘n’ ride spaces will make public transport even more accessible for the communities that make up the Pine Rivers region, and mean fewer cars on the road.

“This announcement is a huge win for commuters across the region.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government had committed approximately $114 million in park ‘n’ ride investment during the 2017 campaign.

“Lawnton Station was one of nine park ‘n’ ride upgrades announced by the Palaszczuk Government during last year’s election, which will add 2,300 new spaces across South East Queensland,” Mr Bailey said.

“I’d like to commend Nikki Boyd and Shane King for their strong advocacy to improve public transport infrastructure for commuters across Pine Rivers.

“This is a significant investment into public transport and demonstrates that the Palaszczuk Government is taking necessary steps to help ease congestion across a growing southeast region.”
