While Pine Rivers and Kallangur electorate state school students and teachers have been enjoying a well-earned break, local tradies have been hard at work upgrading and expanding local schools ready for 2017.

Member for Kallangur Shane King said the work was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record $667 million school infrastructure program.

Mr King said Kallangur and Pine Rivers schools would share in more than $3 million for improvements to classrooms and other facilities.

“We want our state school students to have the best-possible classrooms to make the most of their education,” he said.

Mr King said work done on local schools in his area during the holidays included:

  • $805,000 for Murrumba State Secondary College for two relocatable buildings;
  • $90,000 for Dakabin State School to refurbish Block G classrooms; and
  • $155,000 for Kurwongbah State School to refurbish the special education block.

While Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd announced:

Ms Boyd said that when students and teachers return to school on Monday 23 January they will notice a big difference.

“This work was completed during the school holidays to ensure as little disruption as possible to classes.

“We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to a quality education and that includes quality school facilities.”

Ms Boyd said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to catering for enrolment growth at schools in Pine Rivers.

“We will always provide the classrooms our schools need to provide a quality education to all students,” she said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is not only building better schools in Pine Rivers we are also providing valuable jobs for tradies and training opportunities for apprentices.

“Our investment in new school classrooms and maintenance is supporting thousands of jobs for tradies and suppliers around the state.
