Early work begins as Palaszczuk Government upgrades Strathpine station

Early works are now underway ahead of the Palaszczuk Government’s multi-million dollar overhaul of Strathpine station, which will significantly improve access for the entire community, including residents using mobility aids, seniors and those with prams or luggage.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport Jackie Trad said the Palaszczuk Government is committed to making public transport more affordable and accessible for the Strathpine community.

“This upgrade is part of a $212 million investment by the Palaszczuk Government to improve accessibility at high priority stations across the South East Queensland train network,” Ms Trad said.

“This project will support 250 jobs for subbies in electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, labouring, roofing, glazing and traffic control and is a very welcome upgrade for the people of Strathpine.”

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said the upgrade is vital to ensure all local residents travel with ease.

“This project will make Strathpine station more accessible,” Ms Boyd said.

“Strathpine station is an important transport link for the community that connects key community services nearby like the Strathpine Library and shopping centre.

“This important upgrade will create a modern and accessible station ensuring that everyone in the local community can travel safely and easily, including people who use mobility aids, seniors and people with luggage and prams.

“Station improvements include a new pedestrian footbridge and lift, accessible toilet with baby change facilities, extended waiting shelters, raised platform sections to assist with boarding and a range of other accessibility features, such as hearing aid loops.

“The upgrade will also introduce improved signage and security features, such as new lighting and CCTV.

“When the upgrade is completed, all train platforms will be able to be accessed independently via paths, ramps or lifts, without the need to use stairs.

“These early works will prepare the station for the construction of a temporary platform on the northern end of the existing platforms and other access arrangements, to ensure the station can remain fully operational while major construction works are underway.

“This accessibility upgrade is a fantastic result for our local community delivered by the Palaszczuk Government.

There may be some minor noise and minor temporary changes throughout the upgrade.
