Designs well underway for Strathpine Station Upgrade

April 07, 2017

MEDIA RELEASE

7th of April 2017

Strathpine residents are ever closer to an easier, more accessible commute, with the design now underway for a multimillion dollar upgrade of their local train station.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport Jackie Trad said the upgrade to the station was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to fixing the trains by putting the commuter first.

“Across the network we are upgrading stations to make them clean, modern and accessible as part of our commitment to fixing the trains and modernising Queensland Rail,” Ms Trad said.

“The project is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $212 million investment over the next five years to upgrade train stations and improve accessibility across the South East Queensland network.”

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said that the upgrade to Strathpine station was great news for local commuters.

“I know how important accessible public transport is for our community and I’m proud to be delivering on this commitment,” Ms Boyd said.

“Strathpine is a key station on the Queensland Rail network accommodating more than 612,000 passenger trips last financial year and is an absolutely integral link for our community for people to get to work, school, university, or even just to visit friends and family.

“The upgrade will also provide 250 local construction jobs and turn Strathpine station into a modern and accessible station, ensuring that everyone, including wheelchair users, the elderly and parents with prams, can travel safely and easily.

“While the full scope of works is still to be finalised, the upgrades typically provide a new footbridge with lifts, raising the height of platform sections to provide easier access on and off the train and a range of other accessibility features, such as hearing aid loops and accessible toilets.

“Queensland Rail will work closely with its Accessibility Reference Group to ensure the scope of the station upgrade reflects all passengers’ needs and I will be kept up to date during this process.

“As we move through the design and construction phases, we will also ensure the local community is kept well informed of the project’s progress.

“The design is scheduled for completion in late 2017 and we expect that the first sod will be turned in early 2018.”
